 Tal como lo hizo Duffy con su single Mercy, Madonna se queda por 8va semana consecutiva en el primer lugar del music chart  convertiendose asi en uno de los sucesos comerciales mas importantes de su carrera. The single scored Madonna her 37th Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 hit, making her the artist with the most Top 10 hits in the history of the chart, surpassing Elvis Presley. In the UK, she retained her record for the most number one singles for a female artist, this being her 13th. The best hot shot debut is Coldplay. This single is is the first single from Coldplay's fourth studio album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, released 6 May 2008. Chris Martin described the song as having a "chalky, pastel feeling" which he said reminds him of his childhood. "Imagine a pseudo guitar-like circus music with a pinch of Chicago... It's something new from us and you will be impressed." The song is the first anti-war protest song from the band, and borrows its rhythm from the Beatles; Violet Hill is a street near Abbey Road. Martin told Rolling Stone that lyrics about a fox becoming a god and a "carnival of idiots on show" were a commentary on Fox News.

Por 6ta semana consecutiva el single "4 minutes" del nuevo album de Madonna "Hard Candy" se queda en el primer lugar de los singles mas escuchados en todo el mundo. La revista Rolling Stone dijo que la canción destacaba por poseer una gran energía y un ritmo semejante a una banda de guerra. Chuck Taylor editor y crítico de la revista Billboard dijo que con la canción Madonna «está dispuesta a obtener su primer éxito en el top 10 (del Billboard Hot 100) desde “Hung Up” en el 2005… Hay una tremenda posibilidad de que se vuelva un éxito en las pistas de baile». BBC Music describió “4 Minutes” como un sonido “tan futurista que podría realmente haber sido emitido en forma de el fin del mundo real”, fue llamada una de las salvadoras del álbum Hard Candy por el periódico “The Independent”, que también destacó que el ritmo y la canción en sí es una de las “más ambiciosas ofertas del álbum. The track features the late R&B artist Static Major and is produced by Deezle and Jim Jonsin. It was mixed by Fabian Marasciullo. The song was released digitally on March 13, 2008. The song also features the style Auto-Tune singing effect which Lil Wayne has been experimenting with on various released tracks.
